The Smoky Mountains come alive with activity in the spring. The trees are blossoming and the wild flowers are popping up. Thousands of people gather in Pigeon Forge for "A Mountain Quilt Fest" presented by the City of Pigeon Forge and two local quilt guilds, the Piecemakers and Sevier County Quilters. The 16th annual event will be held on March 9th through the 13th. Many classes are available as well as a vendor mall with vendors from all over the nation showing the newest fabric and notions in the quilting industry.

This year one of the special features will be an opportunity quilt made by Maria Holloway and quilted by Pauline Springer of Holloway's and Rocky Top Quilting. Maria used Quilt Smart fusible interfacing for her base design which is today's simplified method to create yesterday's intricate patterns. She used fabric designed by Ro Gregg from North Cott Fabric's "Quilt for a Cure line by Northcott". The profit from the Opportunity Quilt will go to Northcott's Quilt for a cure breast cancer research program. The Mountian Heritage quilt challenge for 2011, "Memories", will feature "Quest for a Cure" fabric. The fabric packets may be purchased during the show in March from Holloway's, Machine Quilting by Iva and The Cherry Pit. Northcott fabrics will be featured in Maria's booth. Ro Gregg will be there to meet and greet you. Visit Holloway's booth and learn how to create intricate quilts using the Quilt Smart method.

Pigeon Forge is a family destination with so much to do for everyone. Drop mom off at the show and go hiking, fishing, white water rafting or enjoy the many varied attractions. With many reasonable hotels and camp grounds, it's a great adventure for one and all!
